BIS CRS Registration in India

BIS (CRS) Registration – Scheme II was introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to regulate the quality and safety of electronic and IT products sold in India. Currently, the scheme covers 76 notified products, making BIS registration mandatory for all manufacturers and importers. The objective of this scheme is to protect Indian consumers from substandard and unsafe products and ensure that only quality-assured goods enter the market.

Under the CRS Scheme II, manufacturers—both Indian and foreign—must obtain a BIS license before manufacturing, importing, storing, distributing, or selling covered products in India. After registration, products must display the Standard Mark (CRS Mark) along with a unique registration number. Each manufacturing unit requires a separate registration, even if the product remains the same. Products must comply with the relevant Indian Standards (IS) and be tested in BIS-recognized laboratories. Foreign manufacturers must appoint an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) to apply on their behalf.

The BIS CRS registration process involves online application, product testing, document submission, and verification by BIS officials. If all requirements are met, the license is usually granted within 20 working days. The license is valid for two years and can be renewed subject to compliance. Overall, BIS CRS Registration in India ensures legal compliance, consumer safety, market access, and enhanced product credibility in India.
